Meditation for Beginners & Mental Health Crystals

Meditation is a mental relaxing practice that has been used for thousands of years to improve physical and mental health.  

There are many benefits to be gained from meditation the include:


  • Reduces stress and anxiety: Meditation can help reduce the levels of stress hormones in the body, which can lead to a reduction in anxiety and stress.
  • Improves focus and concentration: Meditation can improve the ability to concentrate and focus, which can lead to increased productivity and better cognitive function.
  • Enhances emotional well-being: Meditation can help improve emotional regulation, leading to a greater sense of calm and well-being
  • Improves sleep: Meditation can help improve sleep quality, leading to better overall health.
  • Boosts immune system: Meditation can help strengthen the immune system, leading to a lower risk of illness and disease

There are several different ways to meditate:


  • Mindfulness meditation: This involves focusing on the present moment and paying attention to sensations in the body, thoughts, and emotions.  This can also include focusing on the sounds around you, I particularly like to listen to the bird song in my garden.
  • Mantra meditation: This involves repeating a word or phrase to help focus the mind.
  • Guided meditation: This involves listening to a recorded meditation where a teacher guides you through a series of visualizations and relaxation techniques.
  • Movement meditation: This involves combining meditation with physical movement, such as yoga, tai chi or walking.


There are many different crystals that can be used to enhance the meditation experience.  


Below are nine crystals and their uses within meditation:

 Amethyst is often referred to as the "stone of tranquility" and is associated with the crown chakra located at the top of the head. By opening the crown chakra, amethyst can help calm the mind and promote mental clarity, making it easier to enter a meditative state.  Also associated with spiritual awareness and higher consciousness. By promoting spiritual growth and connection with your higher self, amethyst can help deepen your meditation practice and provide insights and guidance, supporting emotional healing.


Often referred to as the "stone of love" rose quartz opens the heart chakra, helping you cultivate feelings of love, compassion, and kindness towards yourself and others, which can enhance your meditation practice.  Rose quartz is believed to have a calming and soothing effect on the emotions, making it easier to let go of negative thoughts and feelings during meditation. This can help you connect with your inner self and promote emotional healing.  Rose quartz is also associated with self-love and self-care. By cultivating feelings of self-love and acceptance, rose quartz can help you develop a positive self-image and enhance your meditation practice.

 Black tourmaline is known for its ability to help ground and centre the body and mind. This can be particularly useful during meditation when it's important to stay focused and present. By helping to ground your energy, black tourmaline lets you feel more connected to the earth and less distracted by external stimuli.  Black tourmaline crystal is also believed to have protective properties, making it a helpful during meditation when you want to create a sacred space shielded from negative energy and psychic attacks.

Citrine is said to enhance focus and concentration, making it easier to stay present during meditation.  Known as the "stone of abundance" citrine is said to clear negative energy, promote positive energy, and help remove any blockages that may be hindering your meditation practice.  Citrine stone is also said to boost confidence and self-esteem. By enhancing your sense of self-worth, you can approach your meditation practice with a more positive and empowered mindset.


Labradorite is said to promote inner peace and calmness, its soothing energy helping you to let go of stress and anxiety and enter a deeper state of relaxation.  Also known as the "stone of transformation" labradorite is said to enhance intuition and psychic abilities. This can be helpful during meditation, enabling you to access deeper levels of consciousness and tap into your inner wisdom.  Labradorite is believed to help balance and clear your energy centres (chakras), this can help you feel more grounded and centred during your meditation practice.


Hematite is believed to have a grounding effect on the body and can help stabilise the mind and emotions. This can make it easier to enter a meditative state and focus your attention on your breath or a specific meditation technique.  Hematite is also associated with focus and concentration, by promoting mental clarity and focus, hematite can help you stay present and focused during meditation. 

Lapis Lazuli: This crystal is believed to help with communication and self-expression hopefully leading to increased confidence.


Sodalite is believed to have a calming effect on the mind and can help clear mental clutter and confusion. This can make it easier to enter a meditative state and focus your attention on your breath or a specific meditation technique.  Sodalite is also associated with self-discovery and self-awareness. By promoting self-exploration and introspection, sodalite can help you connect with your inner self and gain a deeper understanding of yourself.


Angelite is known to help create a peaceful and serene environment, making it easier for the mind to focus and concentrate during meditation. It is also believed to enhance the connection between the physical and spiritual realms, helping to create a deeper sense of spiritual awareness and insight.

To use crystals in meditation, you can hold them in your hand or place them on your body as you meditate. You can also create a crystal grid around you or your meditation space for added energy and intention. It's important to remember that while crystals can be helpful in enhancing the meditation experience, the most important part of meditation is your own practice and intention.
